Discovery of an Ancient Temple and Military Artifacts at the Kanka Site in Tashkent Region

On the territory of the ancient Kanka monument in the Tashkent region, archaeologists have discovered a temple and fragments of military equipment dating back to the 5th–7th centuries.

The excavations are being carried out by the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences in cooperation with the Tashkent regional administration. The research is part of the preparation of the Kanka site for the creation of an “Open-Air Museum.”

According to experts, fragments of metal armor were found inside a temple located on the lower platform of the arch of the ancient structure.

Preliminary data suggest that the finding may be connected to an ancient tradition of offering valuable handmade items to temples — ibodatkhonas.

“Similar customs have been observed in other regions of ancient Turan as well. For instance, during the excavations of the Boykend temple, military equipment was also discovered,” the Academy explained (Podrobno.uz).
