Afrosiyob hotel is located in the very center of Samarkand city – the real pearl of Uzbekistan. The hotel is within a short walking distance from Samarkand's main tourist attractions: Registan square and Gur-Emir Mausoleum. Afrosiyob Palace hotel is the largest hotel in Samarkand. The hotel features grand premises of different architectural styles and techniques surrounded by gardens facing grandiose Gur Amir Mausoleum & Registan Square. The hotel distinctive charm and welcoming hospitality will ensure that all visitors experience unparalleled warmth.The hotel occupies building of 1958 of Soviet architecture and style with some modernizationrecently done. Hotel has typical Soviet style: striking exterior and grandiose lobby.As the building is not new some facilities in the roomsmight not work properly from time to time. Acoustics at one end of the building guarantee a disturbed sleep in the late hours if there is a noisy wedding party in the main function room.
The main asset of this hotel is its location - directly across the road from the main tourist attraction, the huge mausoleums of Tamerlane the Great and his wife. It seems as this hotel is frozen in time and if you are nostalgic of old Soviet hotels of the 70"s this is the place. Gardens are just abandoned; paint is falling off the facade. Rooms are dark and outdated with poor acoustics isolation. Though employees are very friendly and helpful and seemingly proud of this place.
Accommodation at Afrosiyob hotel
The hotel has a huge capacity with 300 rooms. It could have been a really nice place to stay should they made some investments and renovate it. According to reports of those who stayed there try to avoid the rooms on the Registan side of the building, particularly those at the entrance side of the building if you want to be sure of an undisturbed night.If the structure is sound, a smart investor would make the investment needed to completely overhaul the facilities and services. Until that happens, it is never going to be good enough to attract enough visitors to fill its 300 rooms. There seems to be no air conditioning so the rooms must be awful in summer.Sheets not crystal clean, carpets look dirty.
