"Discovering the treasures of the ancient Silk Road ..."
So was called the organized by Permanent Mission of our country at the United Nations presentation of tourist potential of Uzbekistan which took place in the American city of Orem.
It was attended by heads of administrations of Orem, representatives of tourism companies, public, academic and business circles, electronic information, as well as students and faculty of the University of Fordham (New York) and University of Utah Vole (Utah state).
Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan at the UN in his speech noted that the country, since ancient times served as a bridge between East and West. The territory of modern Uzbekistan, along the ancient cities of Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva laid Great Silk Road, which was a way to not only commercial but also cultural and language exchange customs and traditions of different peoples.
The great interest aroused the audience about the modern touristic potential of Uzbekistan and opportunities for cooperation in this field with the United States. It was stressed that this practice allows professionals to directly learn about the tourism industry with tourism facilities, capabilities of individual regions of Uzbekistan, as well as service activities available of the country for an interesting organization of tourism programs, including American citizens.
Participants were informed with the presentation with a brief history of the ancient centers of civilization in the territory of Uzbekistan, as well as historical and contemporary development of cities of Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva. It was noted that one of the oldest cities in the world - Tashkent in 2007 was declared the capital of Islamic culture, which indicates its wide recognition as a center for spiritual, scientific and cultural development of not only Central Asia but also the Muslim world.
Information was provided on a constant increase in the number of tourists from Europe, Asia and the Middle East in Uzbekistan, as well as measures aimed at further strengthening of touristic exchanges with U.S. companies. Particular attention was paid to new types of tourism in Uzbekistan, including environmental, sports tourism and visits to nature reserves located in the territory of the republic.
Among the participants were distributed materials about the investment and tourism potential of Uzbekistan, historical and cultural sights as well as popular tourist destinations of the country.
