Exhibition under the title opened in Kiev at National Museum of Art under the Khanenko name with the assistance of Uzbek Embassy in Ukraine. The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of ministries and departments, intellectuals, heads of diplomatic missions and mass media.
The exhibition features about 30 samples of weaving and sewing of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, made by folk artists from Samarkand, Tashkent, Bukhara, Jizzah, Ferghana and Namangan, as well as items of clothing and a huge collection of headwear from different regions of Uzbekistan.
Welcoming the participants, the exhibition's curator, Deputy Director for Science Museum of Anna Rudik noted that she engaged in arts and crafts of the peoples of Central Asia, particularly Uzbekistan for a long time. According to her words, the Uzbek Suzane - is a kind of calling card of the country. Since ancient times, embroidery has been in use among the population, serving mainly interior decoration, outerwear and headwear. "The exhibition will undoubtedly arouse great interest, both among specialists and among fans of Oriental art. It will more fully reveal the uniqueness of the rich culture, traditions and customs of talented Uzbek people. It will provide an opportunity for Ukrainians and visitors deeper to learn the history of the ancient region, style and originality of folk artists whose works are still kept in unique Uzbek Suzane, "said A. Rudik.
Video footage of the Uzbek masters - keepers of the traditions of national culture, bringing spirit of modernity in them, by which the rich heritage of the Uzbek maintaining and developing to this day also shown at the exhibition.
Ambassador of Denmark in Ukraine M.Borg-Hansen and a sales representative of Poland A. Grabovski noted that they are big fans of oriental art and in their home collections cherish some kind of Uzbek Suzane. Diplomats stressed that such exhibitions bring together the countries and people, let understand the depth and the philosophy of different civilizations development.
According to the ambassador of Japan in Ukraine T. Sakata, he had read and heard about the unique arts and crafts of the Uzbek people, but all seen things him pleasantly surprised. "It is remarkable that we were and are people, who care and are concerned of future generations, selecting and preserving them for such a collection, which absorbed breathing epochs, the history of the national culture and the priceless treasures of folk arts," he said.
The exhibition aroused great interest of Ukrainian media, which dedicated it numerous publications, TV reports and radio broadcasts.
