The management of the Brazilian city was dissatisfied that the service of Google Maps has given too much attention to the slums, for which Rio is well-known for the whole world not worse than carnival. Local newspaper Globo summarizes: Google Maps make false impression that Rio represents no more than a huge assemblage of slums. The secretary of city administration concerning tourism of Antoniu Pedru Figeyra de Mellu has declared that absurdity of maps is noticed for a long time, but their request to correct Google has rejected in 2009.
It is not the first time when Google faced with criticism of the cartographical service. This year the German city Emden has complained that the map "has given" its harbor to the Netherlands. And Costa Rica has declared the protest because disputable islands have appeared on the Nicaraguan party of border in November 2010.
