UNWTO (World Tourism Organization) will visit Samarkand

UNWTO officials and the Government of Uzbekistan will hold the Fifth International Meeting dedicated to Great Silk Road on October 8-9 in Samarkand. It is planned to introduce new concepts of branding and marketing of the Great Silk Road, Tour Center management, simplifying travel formalities and set out the key strategies of the Action Plan UNWTO Silk Road for 2010-2011.

As it is noted by Uzbektourism, Uzbekistan is expecting arrival of representatives from 24 countries along the Silk Road. The key issues to be discussed will be integrating the efforts of stakeholders in achieving economic growth by strengthening the tourism brand Silk Road.

In particular, the UNWTO offers to encourage the efforts of Member States to enhance cooperation and create a framework to facilitate tourist formalities to ensure more favorable impressions of the journey along the Silk Road.

According to the UNWTO executive director Mr. Zoltan Somogi, the Silk Road has a considerable potential for tourism growth, and UNWTO will give new impetus to this initiative through the development of its Plan of Action on the Silk Road for 2010-2011.
