Archeologists stumbled on them during the diggings at the burial Kuktepa in Chelek, which is located  30 kilometers away from Samarkand.

Dates of the finding are from the IX-VIII centuries BC. Also Archaeologists have discovered a particular palace, which is covering an area of one hectare, and, nearby, a major Zoroastrian temple. Scientists describe the findings as the scientific evidence of existed here strong state apparatus.

On the site of ancient town Afrosiab in the oldest part of Samarkand archaeologists have discovered the remains of the palace during the reign of Karahanid (XI-XII centuries). Inside the palace walls hundreds of well-preserved epigraphic inscriptions and images of people, birds and animals were found.
