UNDP has opened new resource centre at the National Library of Uzbekistan

On May 21 at the National Library of Uzbekistan named after Alisher Navoi was opened a resource center which is supported by the UN Development Program in Uzbekistan in the framework of the UNDP project.
The official part of the event was opened by the Director of the National Library of Uzbekistan Mr. A. Umarov, as well as UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Uzbekistan Mr. Kyoko Postill.
Professor, Doctor of Technical Sciences Mr. Marat Rakhmatullaev made a presentation on the development of library information exchange with international organizations.
Administrator of Resource Center Mrs. Irina Choi spoke about the center's activities and services provided to the general population.
The purpose of the center is to provide free Internet access and training in various disciplines of information technology, such as the initial rate of ICT, office programs, internet and e-mail, web site design and new generation technology.
The Center is aimed for the general public, including teachers and students in secondary schools and universities, health care workers, people with disabilities, librarians, government officials, businessmen, lawyers, journalists, and academics.
Such regional centers operates since 2006 on the basis of local organizations in Andijan, Jizzakh, Navoi, Surkhandarya, Ferghana, and Khorezm regions.
In addition in teaching computer literacy, UNDP is assisting in the development of young people, strengthening the role and authority of women in society, teaching people with disabilities, small and medium-sized businesses, providing resources centers which are supported by local government organizations.

New step for improving tourism infrastructure in Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan is building a plant to assembly the German bus "Mercedes-Benz".
