Uzbekistan became a full member of this international organization in 1993. Cabinet of Ministers "On measures to improve the performance of museums of the republic" from 23 December 1994 marked the beginning of the reform of the museums in the country, strengthening its material and technical base.
It is difficult to overestimate the importance of museums in the cultural life of Uzbekistan. They play not only for educational purposes, but also actively contribute to the education of young generation in the spirit of patriotism and pride for our great ancestors, who made a huge contribution to world civilization. Today, in Uzbekistan, under the state protection is taken over 7,000 artifacts and artistic culture, including archaeological sites in 2700, 2500 and 1800 monuments of architecture works of monumental art.
The Ministry of Cultural Affairs and Sport has 89 museums, including 23 regional studies, 11 art history, 27 historical, 7 literary, 1 of natural science and 3 Museums: Bukhara, Samarkand, "Ichan-Kala in Khiva. Among the largest repositories of the Republic are the State Art Museum, State Museum of applied arts in Uzbekistan, Karakalpakstan State Museum of Arts named after Savitsky.
Navoi region has a great potential for development of ecological tourism in Uzbekistan. There already exist several tourist centers around the lake of Aydarkul.
