ADB provides Uzbekistan with nearly $ 1 billion on construction of "the national highway” and modernization of “Tolimarjon” Thermal Power Plant.Asian Development Bank (ADB) will provide Uzbekistan the loan package for $ 950 million for the construction of national highway and modernization of Tolimarjon TPP.

According to the press service of the bank, a key highway in Uzbekistan, which connects Uzbekistan with other Central Asian neighbors, will receive support from the Asian Development Bank in the amount of $ 600 million.
Board of Directors of ADB has approved funding for the program, which includes three projects. As per the project more than 220 kilometers of highway A380 will be reconstructed, and provided educational support for better planning, project management and Traffic Management Company. The loan will be submitted in three tranches. ADB has provided $ 240 million from the ordinary resources of the bank and $ 360 million from the Asian Development Fund.
Highway A380 connects Uzbekistan with Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan. Modernization of the highway with the international standard will reduce the travel time, reduce transportation costs, improve security, and support efforts to reduce poverty. Another road project, funded by ADB in Kazakhstan, will connect the country with the highway A380 in Uzbekistan. Once these two highways will be built, they will allow Uzbekistan and other Central Asian countries direct access to the Caspian Sea through Aktau, and ultimately the Black Sea, through the corridors which will be built in Azerbaijan and Georgia.
The same day the Board of Directors of Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved funding of $ 350 million for the construction of combined-cycle plant in Tolimarjon TPP of 800 MW. That will help the country to improve the efficiency of electricity production from 30% to 50% and save fuel and reduce
carbon dioxide emissions by 1 million tons annually.

The cost of the project amounts to $ 1.28 billion, the Government of Uzbekistan has also requested a loan of $ 300 million from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The remainder of the $ 630 million will be financed by the Government, the Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan and the company “Uzbekenergo”.
