Tashkent Photo exhibition in UK
Presentation of the photo exhibition "Tashkent - the story of the city" was held at a Cambridge University, dedicated to 2200th anniversary of the capital of Uzbekistan. The event was held at the festival « Navruz Celebration» college "Jesus" at Cambridge University with the participation of leaders, faculty members, students, representatives of the universities of London, Oxford, Manchester, Nottingham, the Royal Asiatic Society, the British Museum, the business community as well as parliament, government agencies and the diplomatic corps.
The exhibition housed in the center of the chapel of the British College, which is an architectural monument of XII century and one of the most notable buildings in Cambridge. According to the Anglican tradition, the chapel is open for students, faculty, staff of the University regardless of their religion, as well as for groups of tourists and visitors.
The photo exhibition, organized by the Forum of Culture and Arts of Uzbekistan with the support of the British Council, the Cambridge Forum for Central Asia, the British-Uzbek society and the Embassy of Uzbekistan in London, aiming to demonstrate that Tashkent, as a pearl in the necklace of cities in Central Asia, is an ancient and eternal young city, the heart of the blessed Uzbek land. This city is enriched by different linguistic and cultural traditions for more than twenty centuries. Steeped in myths and legends, it was the inspiration for artists, composers and scientists. Tashkent embodies a glorious past and looks to the future with confidence and joy.
The exhibition consists of 80 photographs selected from the same-name book-album, released by the Foundation in conjunction with UNESCO, which contains 450 images captured over 130 years.
Vice-Rector of Cambridge University, Professor Sandra Dawson noted the usefulness of holding such festivals to better understand the culture and traditions of Central Asian people. She noted that the Cambridge University, whose history includes more than 800 years, is relatively young compared to Tashkent, which is celebrating its 2200-year anniversary.
