"Navruz" and "Katta ashula" are included in a non-material cultural heritage of humankind

The 4th session on a non-material cultural heritage has taken place last week in Abu Dabi (United Arab Emirates. More than 400 experts representing 193 member states of UNESCO have taken part in this event.

Huge interest to event was due to the fact that for the first time since UNESCO’s Convention on protection of a non-material cultural heritage signed in 2003 member-states had to submit documents with the list of cultural objects to be included in UNESCO’s list of non-material cultural heritage of humanity.
In total 111 proposals have been submitted, and only 76 from them have been recognized being worthy for inclusion in this honorable list, - noted Secretary of the National commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan on UNESCO affairs Alisher Ikramov.

Two nominations were from the Republic of Uzbekistan - "Navruz" and "Katta ashula". And nominated document "Navruz" has been prepared in close cooperation and on behalf of Turkey, Iran, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan and India.

Expert’s Commission from those countries that were drafting the proposal on "Navruz" had been headed by representative of Uzbekistan.

"Katta ashula" is translated as "the big song" - is a form of verbal singing art.

"Navruz" is translated as "new day". This is an ancient celebration day (March 21), the day of a spring equinox, when people celebrate the arrival of spring and New Year.
Nowadays following cultural objects are included in UNESCO’s list on non-material cultural heritage of the humanity from the Republic of Uzbekistan: cultural space of Boysun, musical traditions of "shoshmaqom", a holiday of "Navruz" and "Katta ashula".
