Exhibition demonstrates unique and peculiar objects of embroidery from all the regions of Uzbekistan that vary in color, style and materials.
This is a good opportunity to learn more about Uzbek embroidery, visitors could touch, compare and assess exhibits, learn how skills and techniques of Uzbek embroiders vary from region to region.
Bukhara was and still is the main center producing art textiles in Central Asia region, and no surprise that Suzani textiles were always known in Europe as famous “Embroidery from Bukhara”. Bukhara produced unique models of embroideries for various purposes.
Embroideries from Samarkand and Urgut differ noticeably from the ones from other regions of Uzbekistan. Here large floral patterns prevail, cold tint approach like in “BASMA” pattern. Samarkand Suzanis bear black, chamois and navy blue colored fantastic figurations, reminding the image of Dragon – “Ajdaho” (in uzbek translation) with wide open chaps. Ajdaho – is a character from the ancient mythology and was believed to protect people from misfortunes. In the past all these patterns were thought to have magic properties, were widely used in decorating wedding handicrafts that had to protect young family from evil forces.
